KYA Golden Gate Greats is a unique, local San Francisco Bay Area Internet radio station. We play top quality, original rock and roll from the KYA days of 1955-1966. We then add artists and songs from all other years that fit our format. KYA Golden Gate Greats is programmed for longer listening, perfect for your work day or just hanging at home. Unlike AM & FM radio stations, playing the same 250-500 songs over and over and over again, we play over 5,000 of the greatest songs of all time. Rockabilly from the City is our specialty. POP GOES THE NEWS!

Mick Jagger, Keith Richards and Ron Wood are back with their first studio album in 18 years and it rocks, "Hackney Diamonds." Here at Radio KYA we're playing fresh cuts from the album on pink vinyl. Wait until you hear Mick wail with a very special lady, Lady Gaga, they nail it

on the critically acclaimed "Sweet Sounds of Heaven." Jagger at age 80 still clinging to his bad boy image drops three f-bombs on "Bite My Head off," bad boy! My grand mother used to wash my mouth out with soap and all I said to her was no I won't.

 The new album features appearances by Paul McCartney, original Stones bass player; Bill Wyman, now 87, Stevie Wonder and Lady Gaga. STONES! (echo)

Dion is on the charts again with a new album "Girl Friends." The 85 year old Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee is rockin' the blues better than ever with Susan Tedeschi, Shemekia Copeland and Carlene Carter featuring the duet, "An American Hero." Dion says "it's a song about the ordinary person being a hero and championing the cause of the people around them." He wrote the song and the Bronx native continues to rock strong with two recent albums featuring bluesy songs with the best in the biz: Eric Clapton, Bruce Springsteen, Van Morrison, Paul Simon, Boz Scaggs and many more. "Dion, like a circling star that never fades, generates the energy and fire we need to pull ourselves up and start again," according to Peter Townsend of The Who.

Sparks are flying with Ron and Russell Mael and their cool new tune, "Veronica Lake." Keep doing that awesome little dance Ron, that only you can do. Whew!

Radio KYA with new rockabilly from The City: Slink Moss Explosion - Honey Be Bop, Toto and The Raw Deals - One More line. If you want more rockabilly action, we've got Wanda Jackson and Imelda May on KYA. By the way, we cannot get enough of Kieron McDonald's "Janet Leigh," what a nice tribute to such a silver screen legend! Rockabilly from The City sizzles on KYA with deep cuts featuring artists and songs who did not get the airplay that they deserved back in the day.

British Invasion is alive and well in 2024.

Childhood friends, Allan Clarke and Graham Nash are back together for a new song, "Buddy's Back," written by Nash for Clarke's new album, "I'll Never Forget."

Clarke and Nash formed The Hollies in 1962 in honor of their hero, Buddy Holly. Nash left the band at the end of 1968 and Clarke stayed on to write and sing "Long Cool Woman" among other big hits.

 The Zombies were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2019. Fifty-five years earlier they came to New York City

at ages 19 to perform their hit "She's Not There." The Zombies led by keyboard wiz, Rod Argent and lead singer, Colin Blunstone, continue to shine with their incredible creativity and endless talent.

The Cannon
 

The Wanderer (Dion)

Chuck Cannon was born in San Mateo, raised in Belmont and San Mateo. Cannon is a Wanderer, having worked on-air at over 40 radio stations. His first gig was at Boss Radio, KSTN in Stockton. From Stockton he went on to Kansas City, San Bernardino, San Diego, Phoenix and finally to one of his favorite radio stations growing up, KFRC in San Francisco. In the mid-eighties, Cannon worked on a pirate radio vessel, Laser 558 – All Europe Radio, off the coast of the UK in the North Sea. Chuck Cannon is inducted in the Pirate Radio Hall of Fame. Chuck worked at the last KYA-FM station, KYAA San Jose - Santa Cruz – Monterey. Cannon enjoys getting outside and running the streets of San Francisco. He also digs watching old film noir classics filmed in San Francisco, hiking the Filbert steps with Bogey, dinner at Scoma's, shopping for vintage and vinyl in the Mission and on Haight Street, buying produce at Rainbow Grocery, watching the Giants play at Oracle Park, taking a trip to the San Francisco Zoo and a swim at Fleishhacker Pool. The Mighty Mitch

Bobby's Girl (Marcie Blane)

The Mighty Mitch was an original KYA Boss Jock from 1960-1966. He helped create "Autumn_Records" in San Francisco, the home of local legends, The Beau Brummels, Bobby Freeman and Sly Stone. He also promoted the last Beatles concert ever, August 29, 1966 at Candlestick Park. Bobby Mitchell is known for his perfect tone, incredible voice and his dry wit. Girls love him! He enjoys lunch at Enrico's, dancing at the Bunny Room and the horse races at Golden Gate Fields. Bobby has a special gift with boomerangs, he can throw a boomerang long distance and it always returns back to him. The Mighty Mitch is inducted as a DJ in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland, Ohio. Legendary radio programmer, Ron Jacobs, once proclaimed, "Radio has been around for about 50 years, and there was never a better disc jockey than Bobby." Hear Bobby Mitchell at any time as he rocks around the clock on Radio KYA.

Big Daddy

​

Big Boss Man (Jimmy Reed)

"Have no fear your Big Daddy is here to blow your mind and clean

up your face." His deep booming voice behind 400 pounds of sounds helped transform KYA into a powerhouse radio station (1961-1965).

Big Daddy promoted San Francisco's first large rock concert in 1962

at the "Twist Party." 18,000 people packed into the Cow Palace to see Chubby Checker, Jan & Dean, Gene Chandler, Bobby Freeman and many more, over 5,000 fans were turned away. Big Daddy enjoys getting out and about in San Francisco. The Paparazzi is always waiting for him at Enrico's, The Condor and the Hungry I. Wrestling promoters once offered him a match with Haystack Calhoun. He also digs racing his '56 Packard Clipper at the Half Moon Bay Dragstrip. Big Daddy was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame on January 17, 1996 as the recipient of the Ahmet Ertegun Award.  Big Daddy is larger than ever today on the Boss of The Bay.

The Stoner

​

Fun, Fun, Fun (Beach Boys)

Jay Stone was a top DJ at KLOK in San Jose from 1973-1988. The longest tenure of any KLOK DJ ever. Jay helped start the careers of many local radio personalities at his own SF Bay Area School of Broadcasting. The Stoner is a huge San Jose Sharks fan, rarely missing a game either live at the SAP Center or on television. He is also a faithful fan of the SF Giants, 49ers and Golden State Warriors.

Jay volunteers much of his time these days to "Loaves and Fishes" in San Jose, a wiz in their community garden, he really gets a workout. A few of Jay's favorite bands include the Beach Boys, Beatles and the Dave Clark Five. He once had dinner with Academy Award winning actor, Jack Palance, Jack took the time to teach Jay how to do one handed push ups. Jay Stone is in the KYA zone at any time.

The Tripp

​

Boy From New York City (Ad Libs)

Peter Tripp left New York City as a top DJ for Radio KYA in 1960. On-air Peter called himself "the curly headed kid in the third row." Peter once spent 201 hours and 10 minutes awake, mostly in a glass booth, spinning records and talking into a microphone. When he began to fall asleep nurses shook him and doctors joked with him. After a few days he began to hallucinate, seeing cobwebs, mice, kittens; looking through drawers that weren't there; insisting that a technician had dropped a hot electrode into his shoe. His last 66 hours awake were spent under the influence of drugs administered by doctors and scientists observing him. What a Tripp! It sure is wonderful to hear Peter Tripp say that famous line again on Radio KYA, "I'm the curly headed kid in the third row."

The Jet Man

Eight Miles High (Byrds)

Jimmy Jet flew the friendly skies of Radio KYA IN 1974. His wild antics and special sound effects are alive today on KYA. Yes, Jimmy's sidekick, Wonder Wings, is still taking naps during afternoon drive. Following his gig at KYA Jimmy became a real pilot for US Air, pretty scary after hearing him on the Boss of the Bay. He was always surrounded by beauty, while living at his cool pad in Foster City, Jimmy sheltered 3 or 4 lovely flight attendants at a time. This was when flight attendants wore mini skirts and had to meet a slim and trim weight requirement. It's a blast to have Jimmy Jet back on the air in the boss cockpit at Radio KYA.
